[quote][quote]A better alternative would be to throw the scumbags in the slammer to go cold turkey and throw away the key until they're clean and no longer addicted.

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

@ CD: Maybe a PM would have been more appropriate?

I am a social worker and I work with drug addicts (mostly heroine) every day for some years now, so I think I do know one or two things about this subject. And subjecting a drug-victim to a cold turkey is nothing but torture, there are other ways to cure this desease nowadays.

Is this just turning into a rant thread now? Perhaps time to be locked? ::)

Certainly not a small thing, but I must say I commend you for doing the right thing ;). If only the rest were like you...

I don't see any value in locking this thread.. yet.

It's a worthy discussion and has brought up some very good points, if a bit personal (on my part, for which I apologise).
If anything it should be moved to the Lounge...  ;)  :P

human rights mean every person has the freedom to walk around in public safe in the knowledge that they will return to their home safe and well. The second you intentionally go against that, and set out to and actually harm someone no matter the reason you forfeit your claim on human rights.
Assault is a crime, punishable by imprisonment, the use of drugs is a crime, again punishable by imprisonment. So combining the two gets you a slap on the wrist?
Maybe this will get me in trouble but i'm sick of all this european lets sugarcoat everything and wrap everyone in cotton wool approach to life. Society was formed on a system of rules, limits and boundries. Everyones so afraid of actually following up on those for fear of reprisal from the lawyer happy world that we live in, that the criminals are basically free to carry on their way.
Lock these people up, give them the help they need in prison and rehab these people that way. But dont make it a holiday camp. Prisoners dont deserve cable tv or game rooms. They deserve the 3 meals a day and an ample courtyard for fresh air and exercise. Nothing more.

Fellow Humans, Mods and Admins...

I think that there have been several well-made (and interesting) points of view expressed in this thread.  Hoewever I am tempted to keep this thread open, I defer to the expressed wishes of certain important parties in this thread to gracefully lock it, lest it goes off on tangents.

My opinion?  Actions have consequences.  However, it is not a simple action/reaction as in "normal" physics - human actions bring human reactions/.consequences.

Obviously, we've come to the point where mine is the only logical and correct action.  I'm locking this thread.  Why?  Because I said so!  (apologies to the cinema comedy of the same title)  :)
