I found this site. It is in Russian so I have no idea what it says, but a there are a few pictures of it.
Duga3Just imagine living in those flats. You would not need a microwave (not that they had one). Just put raw food on the table, stand back and wait (the power on some woodpecker transmitters was estimated to be as high as 10 MW EIRP).

EDIT. The picture below is Zagorizontnaya radar Duga-1 at Chernobyl. If you use Firefox translation tools, it does a pretty good job.

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
