Oh by the way, the suspect is Caucasian, maybe 25-30 years old.  So there was no racial profiling, or whatever, here.  A local TV news station is running an online poll:  "Do you think excessive force was used here"?  To properly answer that question, you really have to see the video.  The reality of this is that any force other than that necessary to take down and secure the suspect would probably be considered excessive, by today's standards, that is, punching and kicking is not necessary under any circumstances.  Hopefully the police will just receive a reprimand and not be suspended.

I should add another side comment here:  Since August 10, two Broward police officers have been killed in the line of duty.  One perpetrator is still at large.  Another police officer was critically wounded in the line of duty, and will take a long time to recover.  They put their lives on the line day after day, yet it seems that the criminals still get the upper hand sometimes.

If there's anything to vent about, it's the news media who want to state on the news that they were first on the scene, or only on channel blah blah.

Of course let's not forget about the unscrupulous lawyer waiting on the sidelines waiting for things like this to happen.

Even CNN has that habit. If anything, the media's standards are falling faster than my bank account. ::)

There was a time that I actually wanted to become a cop myself after I separated from the Air Force, but with all the crap they have to endure these days, I decided not to [too much red tape]. My heart bleeds for those cops in the same way it bleeds for the American soldiers who are in Iraq.

Having two cousins and a number of friends who are police officers in the UK I'm firmly of the belief that the only good journalist is one dangling from the tallest tree in the area by his/her/its neck.... or failing that riddled with bullet holes 8-) Yes I'm VERY anti-journalist. If you dumped them in a cops job for a week they'd soon change their tune ;)

After the week they would be arrogant enough to believe that they have all the answers ::)

I can't help thinking that would depend on which ethnic group the cops belonged to. There seems to be a misguided conception that only white people can be racist. :P ;)

Don't get me started on that. :-X

There was no brutality.  The guy's fine, no bruises.  A very long rap sheet, including other chases and driving without a license.  Made a statement something like "Peoples' lives would not have been endangered if the cops had just stopped chasing me".  The local police union is backing up the officers involved.

He's out on bail and on the streets again.  Taking bets that he'll be behind the wheel again with or without a license.
