no for reds at 2012

Postby john_uk » Thu Oct 11, 2007 6:12 pm

The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed "too British".

Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be "offensive" to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team "too militaristically British".

Red Arrows pilots were said to be "outraged", as they had hoped to put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never been seen before.

Being axed from a British-based event for being "too British" is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain. The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade, as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world.

The Arrows performed a short flypast in 2005 when the winning bid was announced, but their flypast at the Games was to have been truly spectacular. It is to be hoped that common sense prevails If you disagree with this decision, sign the petition on the link below

got this of my clan forum, he didnt state where he got the article from but it has a petition to the PM attached so real enough for me.

Of course, there's no guarantee that the Red Arrows will still be around in 2012.

That's like banning the Blue Angel's because they were too religious or something... ::) ::)

Stupid IMO >:(

EDIT:
It's not true. The team leader has said so himself.

Just shows how rumours can escalate... ::)

Is that right? Woo...That's a relief 8-)

phew!

Looking at that link, that jonny provided, the response to the petition shows this whole hype to be incorrect.

I say again; phew! ;)

Oh please, does this mean that the next time the Olympics come to America, they will ban air force jets from flying because they are "too American"? This is complete nonsence.  >:(

I am just a train fan who happens to like flying and attempting to get the better of the mods especially those with 20/20 vision ;D ;D

This story was tabloid rubbish as Tweek pointed out - THE SUN (that well respected haven of journalistic excellence, accuracy and good taste) didn't have a decent story for one Sunday's News of the World. It's mildly frustrating that it keeps appearing all over the place. If you look at the first paragraph of the petition page you'll see there was a response from "No 10" on 27th September. ::)

The no 10 petitions website was a decent idea, spoilt by the number of petitions which are absolute rubbish... ::)

It'd be nice if people would read the rest of the thread.

Typical. If there are no news stories controversial enough to be worth printing, then make them up. ::)
