Hi Andrew... :D...!

So...

Given the choice of visiting the Dentist, and staying at home... :-*....

Going back to Iraq again, and getting shot at every day... :o...!

Which would be your preference... ::)...!

Hmm, that's a hard one, but I have to say that driving around waiting to get shot at or blown up at any minute is much more exciting that someone sticking their hand down your mouth with a drill ;D

Paul... 8-)...!

Fozzer, You always know how to make a guy smile  ;D

I'll probably go with the asking of the Doctor to gas me out... I doubt he'd want a guy as big as me struggling in pain (6'2'', 240lbs  ;)).. I'm a real wimp when it comes to pain, and even more when it comes to "Dental" Pain... Oh boy... and to think... The Wisdom Teeth are probably gonna be next  :'( :'( :'( :o

Thanks for the advice, stories, and great laughs (Fozzer  ;D)

......Maybe it's absolutely painless and Fozzer's just pullin your leg....

NAH...!

Ever heard the bloke outside your house drilling a hole on the road with his pneumatic drill at 6:30 in the morning... :o....?

That's what it's like having a deep hole drilled into your tooth with a Black and Decker drill, and then filled up with concrete... ;)...!

The pain is unbearable, and a quick death is much to be preferred...;)...!

...trust me... [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]...!

Paul... [smiley=evil.gif]...!

Now, now, Foz, don't scare him... it's not as bad now that one doesn't have to go to the village blacksmith for dental work...or was it the barber in your case?  :D

"...the leeches aren't so bad if you don't look at them..."
:D

Never had a root canal, but from my experience with such things, I've always felt the worst part of oral surgery is the Novocain injections.
I'd recommend the knockout gas...

I have never had one but I do know quite a bit about them (I am currently applying to dental school and have shadowed with a root canal specialist).  They usually aren't painful (its the dentist's job to make it comforable) but sometimes people are hard to get num...thats just the way it is.

If you are really terrified about it there is some things they can do.  If you have someone to take care of you (so take you to the dentist and home and stay for a little bit) I would ask if they are willing to perscribe Halcion (Halcion is the trademark name, the drugs real name is Triazolam).  This drug is a sedative and it works very well.  You will have to go to the dentist and get a perscription and fill it so you can take the pill before you have the root canal.  They will probably only give you 1 pill, they are very small but VERY effective.  You basically will not know whats going on and you will remember very little.  Better yet, it is inexpensive ($3-$5 per pill probably).

I am not a doctor (yet) but I have seen this pill used for this purpose and it works wonders so if you are really worried I would ask about it...it couldn't hurt.  Of course, sometimes there are special circumstances that medications can't be used...but again, it never hurts to simply ask.   ;)
