She was in private hands then. Not part of the navy. So they'd have been civilian tugs. Which is no bad thing, the most powerful tugs in the world are civilian and make most navy tugs look like bath toys.


True... I'd found a pic of her being towed by a Navy tug at Newport News, but that may have been at the time of decommisioning.
