pretty sure he means bits

Nope, megabytes.

I would be extremely interested to know how much a Cable/Broadband connection costs you, or maybe your Parents? ? ?, each month, in the 'States...?

Well, we got it along with our digital cable TV service. Together it's around $70 per month. Not bad considering the cable TV alone, without the package is about $60 per month. I'm one happy simmer. ;)

well, the reason why our calbe bill is so high is because of the 300+ channels of unwatched tv ( with Comcast DVR).

we dont have a home phone, cause the lot of us have cell phones.

I pitch in my fair share of the phone bill, my mom knows i never go anywhere near the TV, except to fix it.

My DSL costs my parents $20.

Our first internet ever was AOL* and that cost us $25 for dial-up.  After we pulled our heads out (mainly due to my part) we got DSL for $28, with me footing the extra $3 per month.  Now after the vacation, out new DSL plan costs $21 per month, so I pay nothing! ;D

*Sorry about the cussing. ;)

Nope, megabytes.

Someone told me these units are quoted in bits & not bytes. Not sure how true that is.

PS.
About Bandwidth

Bandwidth, or capacity, refers to the amount of data a given technology or infrastructure can transmit over time. It is usually expressed in kilobits per second (Kbps) or megabits per second (Mbps).

There is often confusion about bandwidth due to the difference between kilobytes and kilobits. Bits are used to talk about data transfer rates (1 kilobit = 1000 bits), while bytes are used to talk about storage size calculations (1 kilobyte = 1024 bytes). There are 8 bits in a byte. So a 28.8 Kbps (kilobits per second) modem can actually only handle a maximum of 3.6 KB/s (kilobytes per second) of data, including the connection to the ISP, the data holding the TCP/IP packets together, and other essential information. Given all these facts together, your download speeds will often be slower than the "potential" advertised.

We are keeping Comcast in business.  We have their Digital cable service for the TV, Computer and Phone.

My Wife pays the bill and I don't want to know how much it is. :o

Last year i was in halls at uni.
This is what i benched the speed as: (i dug this up, it is from when i was called Hi-D)

:o :o :o

I'm on 2Mbit now in a house.  I moving back into halls next year hopefully, and they have upgraded the bandwidth to 155Mbits now!! :o :o  It is shared though, but only between 10-15 people.  That is 15.5Mbits and 10.3Mbits respectively, and that is if everyone is online and saturating the bandwidth.  So i should be getting 50Mbits at least i expect.  I can't wait! 8)
