flying northwest... opinions please

Postby JBaymore » Fri Feb 17, 2006 9:04 pm

I have a business trip to Portland , OR coming up in about 2 1/2 weeks.  My trip is booked on Northwest.

I just heard a news report on NPR today that Northwest's pilots are looking at going on strike soon due to the company trying to cut wages about 50% and kill the pension program....... Feb 28th was mentioned as the possible vote day.

So.... do I cancel my reservation completely and try to book another flight on another airline?  Or do I "sit pat" wit theh reservation and hope that nothing goes wrong by the end of the first week of March?

I have just about NO flexibility in the travel dates.  The day I am secheduled to fly there is the day I NEED to get there (March 7).   A tad more flexible on the return.... but not really because there will be a screw up if I am late.   It is just a more minor mess.

If I get screwed up on the flight out there,......... I mess up presenting at a significant national level professional conference.

Appreciate any suggestiions to help me decide.

best,

......john

If the pilot's go on strike, volunteer to fill in for one of them :D

But in all seriousness, if there's a lot at stake and you don't want to take any chances, it wouldn't hurt to look at another airline

Yeah John, its not worth it. Go for another airline- do AA fly domestic? I'd try them. Alternatively, get there a few days before, check out the venue you're speaking at- I do it when I'm speaking.

Good luck!

Northwest will put you on another carrier if there are any problems. One of their partners.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys.

"Northwest will put you on another carrier if there are any problems. One of their partners.

The question is, will be will they be able to find seats on the day and timeframe?  if they have to move all of the people...... that is a bit complicated.

Hum.........

Thats going to be a problem regardless. Everyone else will be thinking the same as you and rebooking their flights. Whatever you choose to do, be quick. You should be fine but its your choice.
