.....Re: the guy going "through" the A6 engine: I believe his little journey took him through the bypass area around the (internally mounted) engine- had he hit the compressor, he would've been as dead as the mechanic mentioned above.

I suspect you doubt me... as well you should.
I was just hunting around for more info, and found a conflicting explanation: his helmet got sucked in first, destroying the blades, which allowed him to pass through more or less intact.
