I work in my own useful system of inches and millimetres.  Any given piece of wood is measured and if the closest unit is imperial then it's inches, if it's metric then it's millimetres.  It's quites accurate and adds the bonus that only I can understand any plans thatI draw.

OI!!!!! No metric >:( >:( :-/

What's wrong with metrics? I think they're better than the other system, whatever it's called.

The original systems worked fine for a long time. So why did they change? on a whim from that hut in Belguim. To quote Al Murray "Back off Brussels" :-X ;D

A common misconception. We do & we don't. Most things are metric, even the petrol or gas as you know it. Unfortunately all the road signs are in miles. Work that one out. No wonder life is so complicated. ::) :D

Now I just realized why I feel comfortable dealing witih things English...  In Puerto Rico, road distances are in kilometers, speed limits in MPH, car speedometers, of course, are Americanised in MPH, and gas/petrol is sold by the liter.

As a result, you're never quite sure how far you are from wherever, nor how long will it take you to get there!  Ask for a distance (how far is it from San Juan to Ponce (acrross the island) and you get time "Oh, about a two hour drive)....

It's all Napoleons fault. Thats why we had to send him of to St. Helina. No it wasn't for rampaging round europe on a war frenzy. It was for messing round with the measurements. ;D
