The cost of Internet access via the 'phone line?

Postby Fozzer » Mon Sep 05, 2005 6:08 am

Hello all...!

Have you often wondered, (I do!), how it is that you can spend 24 hour per day, 7 days per week on the Internet, using the 'phone line, for a nominal Monthly sum of money.....
...yet the same amount of time spent making 'phone calls using the same 'phone line would cost zillions of Bucks... :o...!

There's got to be a technical reason for it... ::)...?

Cheers all...!

Paul...two bean cans and a length of string... ;D...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

It is all to do with packet switching, voice traffic uses up more bandwidth than digital etc.
