Translated from a dutch site..
The US based Adware producer 180solutions has sued seven of its ditributers for installing their software on pcs whitout consent of the user.
The accused distributors used zombified botnets to spread the software over unprotected PCs.
Distributors of the 180solutions sotware are paid for each installed piece of software. The seven companies that are sued are said to have gained 60000 dollars with their practises.
One of the sued distributors is Eric de Vogt, known in holland for his DDos attacks on some well known servers. For this act he already got 38 days prison and 240 hours social service. As of yet the punishment in the spyware case is still unknown.
The most remarkable point of this case is that a known adware producer is sueing their own distribution channels. A probable cause for this is that 180solutions has been warned about their adware programs. In their last cleanup round, 500 distributors have been kicked out already, but according to both McAfee and Computer Associates they still spread spyware
At least a small step in the right direction....
