Thieves...Of the not so smart type.

I guess with the gas prices reaching nearly $2.70 a gallon (having been $2.05 just 2 weeks ago) this will happen more often :-/

Came from one of the local news stations website.  www.wanetv.com

(Nappanee, Indiana)  Police say two men who tried to steal gasoline from a Nappanee business Sunday stalled their car because they filled their tank with diesel fuel by mistake. An employee of a contracting company about 20 miles southeast of South Bend spotted the two men on company property trying to siphon the fuel out of their car's tank. He noticed that the fuel was the distinctive red of the company's off-road diesel. The employee called police, who arrested a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both from Gary. Elkhart County Sheriff's deputies say the men acknowledged stealing the diesel by mistake. There have been increased reports of gasoline thefts as prices have increased.

Don't blame the people for trying...Its getting to a point now where it takes half my paycheck just to fill up  >:(

Plus side is...Another artical about the Fort Wayne airport.  Sounds like as of October 10th Delta will start direct service to Orlando, FL.  Nice to know the airport is getting more buisness.  Hopefully it will take off and get around to the planned expansion that was "supposed" to be finished this year.  Not even started yet :P

For fcks sake fuel in holland is as expensive as in germany (where the taxation is included in the fuel price) and added to that we have to pay another load of stupid taxes when you just own a car (ie not using any fuel)

Er - well actually, I will blame them for trying. We all have to pay the same prices (although they are unreasonably high), but if we all decided to steal our petrol (mainly from petrol stations) then all of the petrol stations would go out of business - how would you run your car then eh?

I think a lot of the price ranges come from where you live, the taxes in that area, and the general average of the wages in that area.  In reality even though its seems like some people pay way more then others...which in most cases they do... The average % of their income that goes for it is roughly the same.

But when now, I go through roughly $100 a week in gas (used to be $50) it gets a little old.  Just like anyone else I have bills and a life.  Wage never increased so 50 cent jumps in price hurt the wallet pretty bad, especialy when every buck counts >:(  Trying to find a different vehical that is better on the mileage.  But havent found anyone who wants to buy my old gas hog :-[

I have the same problem, but it still dosen't warrant stealing it - unfortunately in England it's all to easy steal petrol from petrol stations, & all too easy to get away with it.

Most of the time if you ring the police with the vehicle registration number they will just say it is a civil matter as you have means of tracing the driver. It's a joke over here frankly. People will leave driving licences, tax discs, phones with no sim card, all sorts - for as little as

No problem for me. I got my bike.

Infinite miles to the Zero gallon. ;D

That is, of course, until I need to get a car one day. :(

here in Brazil we pay about $2,50 the liter, not to mention car taxes.....

i think i'll stick to borrowing my parent's cars for now ::)

good thing alcohol is a viable fuel alternative here... and about half the price.....

(NOTE TO SELF: buy alcohol powered car... and try not to drink from the pump ;D )

One of the many reasons why I love my trusty Bike... 8)...!
My tank holds 18 litres (4 UK Gallons) of petrol and that will carry me 200+ miles at between 50 and 75 miles per gallon, and speeds of up to 125 Miles per hour...
...and NO pollution...!

I just get wet and cold, and I have to carry everything on my back... :'(... ;)... ;D...!

...But I don't get troubled with traffic jams and my annual road tax is a measly

Sounds good Paul - but most of us wouldn't have the survival chances you have. No accident all your life - you are one of the many few that can acclaim a record in that length of time.

Let's see; for a reference we'll use Ponceau, near the center of Belgium. My present drive to the jobsite is the least I've had since my ministerial internship (1 mile -- I walked it!) but  I'll use one of the intermediate, yet still in-state, distances traveled for an installation on my previous job. That would be about a 150 miles. One-hundred-fifty miles in any direction but west from Ponceau? You're out of the country. Going westward, also out of the country... need no fuel... car no work...blub, blub, blub...  :-X :(
???Maybe my map is wrong 8)
;D ;D ;D
