A heart warming story...........
In New Zealand, going back into the days of antiquity, we had two seperate Law Enforcement Divisions. One was called "POLICE" and the other was called the Ministry of Transport, in other words, Traffic Cops.
In a small country where there is only one Police Organisation, i.e no regional, county, City Forces, only the New Zealand Police, it worked well for years. You got the same law and enforcement from one end of the country to the other......e.g. no local rules apply situations.
Then the Politicians, for reasons of Budget (spelt with a big B." decided to merge the two organisations. Since about 1991, the POLICE have continued to lose any public relations gained over many years, the main complaint now is that they are revenue gainers thru a multitude of offence fines. When they ask the public for assistance, everyone now has a sad story to fall back on relating to a speeding fine etc and the good old days are gone. There is a movement to revert to the old system but what Polititian would have the guts to stand up and admit they were wrong.
I see this little story as a sad attempt to win back support. Probably initiated by a well paid PR spin doctor.
Oh for the old days when men were men and women were double breasted.
