It's really easy to use them now.  All you do is plug them into a USB port once you've taken the photos and it'll open a folder showing you the photos.  You can copy the whole folder to your hard drive or just the photos you want.  From there, posting them online is just like posting a screenshot in the Screenshot forums. ;)

As for the camera itself, you can get all kinds.  Mine has loads of buttons, it can zoom 6 times optically, macro, super-macro, exposure settings, flash lenght/strength...BUT you don't need to get one like that.  My other one has three settings...take a photo, see your photos and camera settings.  And most of them have an autofocus mode where you just point where you want to focus and hold the button half way down and the camera will focus on thenpoint, then you press it fully down to take the photo.  Piece of piss really. :D

First of all Congratulations Doug on the fine looking grandchild...she is only 12 hours old and you are already smiling....wonderful ;) :)

Thanks for the responses, very much appreciated.

Just a couple of questions:
(1)  Do we purchase a camera to take to events or just to take shots around here and do we use that same camera to talk to family and friends on MSN.
This is what I would like to do and I understand I hope that there is no film to purchase and no developing as the computer does it all automatically.
Am I correct in surmising this?

(2) Am I correct is saying that I can take the pictures from the camera and store them on a disc to keep for a hundred years or more automatically thus eliminating boxes and boxes of still shots and photo albums of folks long long departed and no one seems to know their names.  I am sure that I can somehow type on the disc to tell who the shots are or what they are about.  Correct?

If this technology is available and so easy to use (no rocket scientist course) then I am all for it.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Morning Doug.
As far as a webcam use. Some digital cameras can indeed be used for talking to others through MSN. But you would have to ask your retailer to be certain.
There is no film needed, but a memory card is, this will be recommended to you by the store you buy it from so it shouldn't be any more confusing.
And yes you can store them on disc for hundreds of years without the need for boxes of albums.. You can name each file individually or put a word file on the disc with it naming each.

Thanks Doug. A few things to add to what Craig has just said. I don't know anything about using a PC camera to chat on MSN. Some digital cameras include this feature but I think I would get a separate one specifically for the purpose. I don't think a proper webcam is expensive. There's one here for
