You never know when you'll need to hit a comet way off in outer space.  Atleast now we know we can do it!

What if the cure for cancer is just sitting in some comet, waiting to be discovered?

Many things we take for granted came from the space program...and many things are still to come.

Or maybe it's sitting on earth waiting to be discovered while everyone is too busy looking up to notice. :P

Just think if that money was spent on the AIDS epidemic in Africa the world would have been spared having to listen to Geldof and his self promoting friends again for at least 20 years.

Because of Geldof and his self promoting friends we have Pink Floyd again. :P ;D

You should not beat dead horses. Same goes for Billy Idol, Tears for Fears and all those revived 1980s zombie bands.

Exactly my point

For at least a couple songs, probably just a plublicity stunt to boost previous album sales (which by the way happened PF sales went up over 1343% Sunday) although those who wanted to see the hyped reunion on MTV lost out becasue MTV "forgot " to show it.

And as for the 240+ million that number is a little small. Cost as of today $333 million.

Sure the gang at NASA and JPL take pleasure in doing these things for their own sake, but that enthusiasm doesn't cost the taxpayers any more than if the control centers were manned by people who didn't get excited about space exploration.

Infact it probably costs less. If those people didn't get excited, they wouldn't care that much if they made a mistake and would probably make a lot more of them.

Not really, that was pretty much a one shot deal, David Gilmour has said in the past that he has no desire to record again, I believe he also compared playing with Floyd at live 8 to "having sex with an ex-wife".

I can't say I blame them, and I can totally understand not wanting to do a big reunion. I obviously never enjoyed the kind of success Pink Floyd achieved, but I know there have been a few times over the years former  bandmates of my own have approached me about getting back together and would not even consider it, been there, done that.
Especially when you consider all the years of their lives these guys (Floyd) have already spent putting up with one another and traveling the world, and now they are 60 ish, I'm pretty sure the idea of staying home and enjoying retirement is much more appealing than trying to get along with people you can't stand for the next year or so.

Not happening

Never seriously thought it would. Nice to dream though.

Comets>> Cure for Cancer>> Pink Floyd

It never ceases to amaze me.

(Note: this isn't a complaint, just an observation)
