Ah yes, the infamous Gimli Glider...... ;)

...........can you imagine slipping a 767 because all you have for hydraulic power is the RAT ..........even the much experienced pilot wondered if he could get back in line with the runway once he stood on the rudder pedal to throw the bird sideways......... :o

Full account of it HERE

"The Gimli Glider"... :D  yes, that's the term I forgot. Much better link; thanks.

Many thanks, Ken...!

A fantastic read.... 8)...!

I particularly like this little note towards the end....

Quote:
An amusing side-note to the Gimli story is that after Flight 143 had landed safely, a group of Air Canada mechanics were dispatched to drive down and begin effecting repair. They piled into a van with all their tools. They reportedly ran out of fuel en-route, finding themselves stranded somewhere in the backwoods of Manitoba.
End Quote.

...perhaps they are still there...::)...?

;)... ;D...!

Paul.... "Fill 'er up, Mate"...... ;)...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

i saw those on National Geographic channel the other day, twas heir "mayday" marathon. one about an Emb120 crashing in Georgia and another about Air 'something or other' A320 landing on empty off the coast of spain. pretty interesting stuff, glad they're safe. all problems related to some sort of engine failure or malfunction

then it cut to the german ICE train crash...
