Good Grief

Postby FLYING_TRUCKER » Sat Jun 11, 2005 12:09 pm

Well we just had a nice hot cup of tea and started to do some research on the computer for the museum when I got bored and checked the sim site.

Yesterday we spent most of the day sailing on the Bay of Quinte which flows into Lake Ontario etc.  It is handy when you fly into Canadian Forces Base Trenton (RCAF Station Trenton) to most of us but the dam politicians and take the Flight Line Bus over to your boat at the Base Yacht Club.

Just another reason I want an Amphibian Aircraft instead of the C172.

RCAF Station Trenton is home to one of the largest Air Cadet summer camps in Canada.  I know there is a Sea Cadet unit on the station but not sure about an Army Cadet unit.

Well what we saw yesterday was about ten kayaks and a dozen or more small sailboats all crewed by Air Cadets with a numer of Army Cadets.
There were no Sea Cadets present, anywhere.
Now we were about a mile out in about two foot waves, good wind when we caught up to these lads. I stayed my distance and started a conversation about where they were heading.
They were going from the Bay of Quinte up into the Trent River which I live on.  There voyage was going to take them about ten miles up the river and through a number of locks.
Now RCAF Station Trenton has three fields within ten nautical miles or so from it which the Air Cadets do their glider training out of.  We could hear the tow planes on our radio.  Oh and by the way these young people "Cadets" start at 05:00 every day for the summer.  I understand a two week winter camp has also been going on as well.
Well the old girl and I were just wondering but never did ask them.....if the Air Cadets and some Army Cadets are in the kayaks and sailboats then who is in those gliders and tow planes we can see.  There were at least five of them.
Good Grief not the Sea Cadets. ;DLOL
I wonder what these young people think, they join Air Cadets to get their Private Pilots Licence and their Gliders Licence plus other useful skills, and they end up in a kayak and sailboat with a bunch of Army Cadets who joined to learn Bush Skills and other useful skills.
Now here are the Sea Cadets who joined to learn sailling amongs other things bouncing around in a glider. :D

Only in Canada you say....Pity ;D ;D ;D ;D ;DLOL

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
P.S. not running down the program...just found the situation humorous...thats all :)

I've seen sea scouts and sea cadets in action on the water and was less than impressed. Maybe they'll do better in the air... ;D

How about the US military. There's a part of the Navy that doesn't have anything to do with being on water. They're called seabees, and i've trained and had many instructors who were Seabees who have never, and will never work on a ship. Go figure ;D

In this budget strapped world, someone has compared the cost of mucking about in kayaks, to the cost of the tug plane.

As I retired yachtie, with gliding experience, I'm not sure what I'd prefer.......however, Kayaks are hard work.

LOL been there 49F SQN ATC (RAF)

I went scuba diving with guys from Faslane a year before flying. The best bit about my time in the ATC was that I'd have done more flying if I hadn't bothered joining at all  ::)

Well the old girl and I just got back from RCAF Station Trenton (Canadian Forces Base Trenton) to the politicians and we had breakfast with the Snowbirds before they left.

Well this week for two days the Humid Index was 41, now that is hot.

The cadets were out marching and running in that, to me that is dedication but also very dangerous to ones health.

However the Military Police ran a marathon along with the Airborne Regiment and the base never stood down.

Most companys closed early to save on hydro in this area but not the base.

To-day it has been raining and where are the cadets...yup...drilling in the rain and playing sports.

Well I guess it is better for them to be doing that than sitting on their butts watching television or doing nothing at all.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
P.S. the Snowbirds declined to do some formation flying with my C172 :P don't figure :-X
