I'm not seeing any point about "shifting rights from the country to the EU" in that document. The constitution is just modifying the current bureaucratic and administration organs of the EU and unifying the EU and EC into one single Union and other stuff, that's not affecting you 08/15 citizens.

One point that worries me is the appointment of an EU foreign secretary. Surely there position would be undermined as soon as any of the member states foreign secretary's was to take a different viewpoint on a matter, for example with the United States. So does that mean there has to be a common EU foreign policy?

Also, a President, but with limited powers? What's the point in that? Seems like someone in Brussels wants to make a European version of the US. Except on this side of the pond we all have such a reputation for getting on so well politically, we speak various first languages (even within states), and of course don't all use the same currency...

If you can understand all that garbage you're a better man than me & I'm used to reading & writing official documents. If you can't understand it how can you possibly vote on it? It's difficult enough to get the governments of two different countries to agree on anything. Three would be almost impossible & 26 a miracle. I have yet to see one convincing argument for this constitution. I can think of plenty against it by myself.

Humbug. As I said, they're just trying to modify and faciliate the basis for the Union with this constitution, which shall replace treaties as the basis of the work of the EU.

The people have spoken!

The votes have been counted and the resuls is clear! A no it is. Lot's of things have happened recently to make the Dutch people distrust the EU. The French/German coorperating in bending the rules for the so-called Stability-Pact is one of the examples. The BBC article is right on many things on how we feel.

We have a unique society even within Europe. Gay marriage and the legalisation of Soft drugs are things people have fought for. All of this in a democratic way. They are our way of life!

Yet these same subjects have been openly attacked by countries including France and such. Because we are a small country with relatively little Citizens we have almost no Voting power. Yet we are one of the biggest Nett payers. To see new countries like Poland get in the EU and to see them getting more voting power than us even if they will be one of the largest supported countries seems rather unfair to us. With this new treaty our voting power would have decreased even more while The larger countries would have gained.

In the past we have benefitted from the EU but that was in a time of economic prosperity. This is not such a time. There is a lack of trust in our Government but also in the EU. Uncertainty grows.

Today we had a unique chance to show our uncertainty and we did!

Our government has now lost total credibility in both the EU and in Holland itself. Their position was weak to start with and has weakened even more. I do not agree with our government. I do not know wether they shall fall and if that is good or bad. I think this is not a good time. But that only time will tell.

Wether you agree our disagree with the dutch descision is your choice and i'll respect that. I ask only to respect Our views and our NO too...
