The sad part of this story is that such things are not so uncommon with elders. There are senior citizens who become violent either because of dementia, losing most of their marbles (the ones they have left are mean marbles, or they have always been mean people and know there's not much that can be done to them.
Sometimes, behavior modification therapy is used (bad behavior is punished by isolation, loss of privileges, etc.) but some people who have never had to deal firsthand with such behavior cry "violation of their dignity!"
