I am in a similler situation, I live in the *sarcasm* brimming metropolis */sarcasm* of St. Joseph MO. I am the only person I know that is interested in flying, all of my freinds think it great that I am going to start taking flying lessons and all, but they dont have the slightest interest in aircraft. I only know one other simmer, but all he plays is modern combat sims, and smokes a lot of "special" ciggerettes, so we dont hang out very much. But, thats why we have the internet, so we dont have to live close to people with similer interests.

Hang in there,  Cessna: someday you won't even remember  those idiots' names. You're lucky, too, that your dad encourages your interests (yeah, I know it's not as cool as having friends your age with the same interests, but it's still pretty cool).  I didn't start flying 'til I was in my early thirties, and the reaction of my family and friends was similar.  I didn't care- this thing was for ME, not them- and the few friends who have flown with me since have proved by doing so that they trust me and respect my ability to do something properly. That's a damn good thing to know about one's friends, believe me.
So meanwhile, just make the most of  "your own private Idaho, runnin' round like a wild potato..." ;D
And good luck with the flight lessons- keep us posted!

I think he means Rome, Italy  ;D

But yeah, flying is something you do for yourself, it dosnt matter what everyone else thinks. Its nice when theres other people around with the same interest, but you dont need them. Luckily I have the kind of freinds that give moral support for anything I do, like I said, they think its cool that Im going to learn to fly, it just isnt their kind of thing.

Homer, completely off the topic, but I just noticed your computer is exactly the same as mine. Do you have an open agp slot, or a pci? I only have a pci slot (not express), so I just bought a Geforce 5200le 256k pci graphics card for around $100.00. The difference in graphics quality and sim response compared to integrated graphics is unbelievable. When you can, check it out. You'll be glad you did. Sorry guys for the off topic, I couldn't resist telling Homer... :)

Ah cornfield.....I mean.....Wabash county Indiana :P  Cant seem to find anyone around here that is interested in flying.  Tried to get my friend into it but i recently found out he deleted the sim from his computer :(  Not many people around here seem to do much but work and sleep.  Some think its strange to hear a junior in highschool talk about going to colledge and leaving this hell hole oops::) town.  One of my teachers acualy laughed when he heard me mention my thoughts about getting into a career in aviation  :-/  its sad that some of my classmates claim they will be nothing more then a farm hand and thats all they are good for :-[  Personaly i like to fly and want to at least work on or around aircraft if not fly one...If others have a problem with that then let them---------------
