I was just plotzing around this evening when I decided to check up on my sister by reading her LiveJournal. :) You have to read the whole thing, and it really is rather nice. :) Just for reference, Dan is my sisters boyfriend and Nicole's her roomate... ::)
So I think God is trying to make up for my lazy lazy weekend by slamming 1,000 events into one day. A Monday no less.
So I have to get my audio sound from a tape to a CD so I can hand it in for a mid term grade, and oh man do I need this because I bombed my test and really need anything to boost my grade a bit since the mid term is 30% of our final grade. So Nicole and I get up around 11:30 to go to the school early so she can help me get my sound off my tape. And of course, nothing in the school works. No one knows how to make it work either. 12:30 edges along and Nicole has to go to work, so I head back to the apartment to eat something and work on homework a little.
I call up the post office because they delivered a package to me Saturday that I didn't answer the door for because I was in bed and sleepy and warm, dammit. So I have to go to the post office and pick it up. So the post office is two and a half miles away, and in South Philly. Argh. I mean, it's not that bad, it's only a 40 minute walk. We used to do it when we wanted to go see a movie. But still, in South Philly. It's a tad sketchy. I could have taken a cab but I need to save that money for food. Anyway, I start walking and most of the walk is pretty nice because I stuck to South Street until I had to go even more south. I get to the post office no problem. Turns out the package was something I got for Dan for Christmas. So see!? I'd even brave South Philly for him I love him that much!
So I walk back, all in all it's about an hour after I left when I get home. I mess around on the computer for a bit, then I gather my things so I can head back to the school to get my mid-term done, maybe find someone who can help me. I'm less than 30 seconds away from my apartment walking up 16th when I hear frantic kitten crying. It gets a bit louder, then it stops as I continue walking, so I'm like, oh okay, it was in someone's car driving by. But I keep walking and then I hear it again. I think to myself, that cat isn't in someone's car driving by. So I retrace my steps a little and find a poor orange kitten underneath a car that's parked on the street. It stopped bawling when I came near it.
Let's tug at my heartstrings some more, why don't we!? I was just thinking how I wanted another kitten. So here I am on my hands and knees on the Philly public sidewalk going "sk sks sks sksk" to the tire of a car (because the cat had stopped crying and it was pretty far in under the car). I called Nicole and she left work early to come help me try and get it out. A few passerby's stopped and were curious, so I asked them if they could just stay here while I ran back to the apartment to grab some food. I got the last can of Stupid's wet food because I thought the smell would attract the kitten better and ran back. Eventually the kitten creeped out and started eating the food. By that time Nicole arrived and she braved being scratched and bitten (with my gloves >_< oh well, all in the name of kitten rescue!) and pounced the cat by the nape of it's neck. A few scratches aside (and a doctors visit tomorrow :P) we got a box and stored it warm in there. Now the fun part is trying to figure out what the fk to do with it...
We went to the Morris Animal refuge, which closed at 4 (it was 4:30) and persuaded one lady to come out and talk to us. She gave us info for vets in the area. We tried one vet but couldn't find it. We tried another and the lady said that it would be best to take it to the refuge >_<. So we have to go there tomorrow when it opens. Nicole and I really want to keep the kitty but we just can't afford it. So we'll see, maybe the refuge will do checkups and things for free.
As for names, he's probably a he because the cat's orange and most orange cats are boys. I've been calling him little fella, or Fella. Or maybe Flunker, because I still haven't been able to do my mid-term and it's due tomorrow at 12:30...
