I live in England, and where i am at Uni (Surrey) i have the home of aviation and car racing for the whole world. This is Brooklands. They have all the pieces of the concorde there and with my course (Aerospace Engineering) i heard about people getting signed up to help put the things back together. Well i got in, i was there yesterday looking at a load of the bits. I spent the day prepping the engine air-intakes inside and out so that they could re-painted. We degreased them and rubbed them down with some sandpaper, we then went over the whole thing checking the screws and put the flaps and pieces back on. I can almost stand up in the air intakes, i have to tilt my head and back a bit, and knees bent a small amount in order to walk around in there.
We are a team of about 10 right now. It is such an honour to be able to work on rebuilding a concorde. I feel so lucky to be able to work on such an amazing aircraft.
I feel your envy!
