Give every passenger an ejection seat!  Imagine a large airliner going down and people popping out like popcorn!!

But with a parachute you don't have to worry about maintaining the plane, just wait for it to brake, parachute down, and fix it.

You'd have to preform extensive maintenence on the parachute

Nah, that's what the backup chute is for.   ;)

Just read an incident report in my latest Flyer magazine.

3rd. October 2002, Lewisville. Texas:
A pilot flying a Cirrus SR-22 at 2,000 feet, lost control of his aircraft after the left aileron separated from one of its attachment points during the cruise.
He avoided a built-up area then deployed his ballistic parachute system.
The aircraft landed upright in a field with no injury to the pilot and with minor damage to the aircraft.

The fault was determined to be due to improper re-installation of the left aileron by maintenance personnel following a service bulletin examination of the ailerons.

A lucky pilot flying a Cirrus SR-22 aircraft fitted with a ballistic parachute.... ;)...!

Cheers all... ;D...!
