Just read an incident report in my latest Flyer magazine.
3rd. October 2002, Lewisville. Texas:
A pilot flying a Cirrus SR-22 at 2,000 feet, lost control of his aircraft after the left aileron separated from one of its attachment points during the cruise.
He avoided a built-up area then deployed his ballistic parachute system.
The aircraft landed upright in a field with no injury to the pilot and with minor damage to the aircraft.
The fault was determined to be due to improper re-installation of the left aileron by maintenance personnel following a service bulletin examination of the ailerons.
A lucky pilot flying a Cirrus SR-22 aircraft fitted with a ballistic parachute....
