Short and Shorts

Short and Shorts

I'm referring to planes, not pants.

Anywho, I'm confused.  Is Short, as in the Short Empire Flying boat, the same as Shorts, like the Shorts Skyvan.  It's really bugging me >:(

Just to confuse the issue the company changed its name back to Short Brothers in 1977. It was taken over by Bombardier Aerospace in 1988. I have no idea what it's called now.
