Hi Doug.I read "Fighter" many years ago & it's time I read it again. Len Deighton is a good author & debunks many of the myths about the BoB. It's not popular in some quarters for this reason but I think his account is one of the more accurate examples. You have to remember that it was written many years after the end of WWII & he had access to records not available to authors of other accounts or the ordinary people there at the time.
He also wrote "Bomber", a similar account of RAF Bomber Command during WWII. Both well worth a read. IMHO
It's "Sigh For A Merlin". You will find out why when you read it.
You have to remember when reading Bomber that it is a fictional story. And I must say that it's one of the dullest books i've ever read. Infact, I never finished it. It's still on my shelf even though it should have been returned to the library nearly two years ago...
