Having some computer trouble and a few questions..

Postby Triple_7 » Thu Jun 24, 2004 4:51 pm

Well the curse is back.  Our computer is messed up...AGAIN!!! >:(  Our favorite little dumba$$ is coming back tomarrow to see what the problem is and what...I...messed with.  We bought this computer back in February and have had to have it repaired 5 or 6 times sence, including having a new hardrive a couple months ago :-/  Every time the guy comes to fix it he blames everything on me and my flightsim stuff >:(  I for one have never messed with the BIOS settings even though im acused every time.  even after he put a block on them so no one could screw with them they were messed up and i was blamed.  I know FS can not mess up a computer and all my addons are only from here, avsim.com, and flightsim.com.  so i know they can not be to blame eather.

the only logical explanation i can come up with is that there is some kind of error in the main programing.  I've ran every scan that i have and none of them have showed a problem or virus.   He told us that 5 other people have bought this same system off of him and have not had any trouble.  It almost has to be a defect somewhere.  He refuses to replace the system or give us our money back.  It should have been totaly replaced the second time it had problems :-/  Our warenty is still good and yet we have had to pay every time to have it repaired >:(  I know that cant be legal when its not our fault.  If anyone has a sugestion on what to do about making them eather give us our money or replace the system i would greatly apriciate it.

As for now its back to backing up what ever i can so as not to loose to much.

Thanks,

Sounds like a motherboard problem .......... Insist on a new system and upgrades!!!!

If it aint been fixed after 5 attempts then it aint gonna be fixed.

Sounds like your being scammed!
Something similar happened to a computer at work my biss got. Stop working right after a week so he called the technician to come and fix it (he even payed the man!) the guy open it up looked around fiddled a little here and there closed it up and said that it needed a new HD, when he went back to the shop to get one (supposidly the one already installed wasn't covered by the warrenty) I decided to open it up and take a look.
What I found was that the "Tech" unplugged the HD!!!!
I plugged it in and fired it up and just like new!
The guy came back and was in awe that it was working fine and I busted him at his con!! Needless to say he handed the check back over and offered to do a bunch of other stuff free of charge!
My advice is to have someone else take a look at it if you don't know enough about them! And then maybe a phone call to the local authorities, or the Better Business Bureu

Thats what I've been thinking.  This is downright crazy.  I know a lot about a computers insides but not so much on the programing.  I've tryed to explain to him that it is not any of the flight sim stuff.  And I think he knows that but just needs something to blame besides himself.  After the new hardrive was put in I ran the virus scan and found 3 viruses that were on it before we even had it.  That shouldnt have been if it was new.  And the fact it was made back in 2000.  I'm putting my foot down tommarow morning and demanding something be done.  Its just a bit anoying to loose countless hours of work for nothing.  I have as much backed up as possible but now it wont even let me save to a CD or floppy.  Nothing will work for more than 5 minutes and its throwing illegal op errors at me left and right, as well as the "blue screen of death."

Now I'm back to my old 350 mghz IBM.  And even it does not run the best.  Our 166 mghz IBM we got back in 1996 runs better then all of these and has never had a glitch.  I guess that just proves how cheap things are made today.

I'll know more tommarow morning.  The BBB might be reciving a call.

Thanks for the info.

Triple7,

Stop there.

First of all, write a letter to the company stating the problem. Within that letter, make it quite clear that you will give them 28 days to rectify the problem.
If the problem persists, you will return the computer for exchange. Like for like.
During this time, you will inform your solicitor to act on your behalf should the company not concede they have sold you a doggy computer.

Do not let them make anymore repairs. your statutory rights are; That a company must sell you a product that lives up to your expectations and maintains its normal function for a statutory period. {normally 1 year}

Dont be fobbed off. be polite but firm.
The power of the pen, is mightier than any corperate company. Get writing, to everyone you can, go straight to the top!

If you need help, mail me
All the best

Trip, don't ever contact that guy again. You are the customer and the customer is always right. It's not his job to blame people for problems, it's his job to fix problems.

I had a little story of crooked computer guys. I wanted a new mobo a while back so I took it into a new shop that had opened up in the next town over. They installed it and said everything was fine. I took it home and that's when the problems started. The computer kept freezing after every few minutes of activity. I went back to the shop, they claimed to have fixed it but it started again. I was quite pissed by this point so I took it to a guy in town. He told me who ever had done the job, didn't know what they were doing. He had power cables dangling in front of the CPU fan which is very dangerous. What the guy had neglected to do was to erase the HDD and reinstall the OS, which is a must for installing new mobos so the OS recognizes it.

Lucky for me, a new computer shop opened in town just down the road from me. They do very good work.

I also have yet another story. Before I bought the mobo mentioned above, I was shopping around for prices. I went into one store. A chain store that operates in the GTA. While I was waiting for service, I noticed that the manager was actually yelling at a customer!

Well we tryed what we could to have something done.  He told us the company he gets these computers off of is the ones we need to contact not him.  Though this time he acualy fixed the problems as best he could without replacing anything.  But now his story has changed to it was allways a Spyware or virus problem untill this time.  The entire registry was screwed up.  Also that Windows 98 will crashe every now and then :-/  I could see it happening once every couple years or not at all... Not every month.  He offered to upgrade it to XP..  for only $90.  suposedly i dont have enough experience with 98 to run it and keep it running..... HELLOW, I"VE BEEN AROUND 95 AND 98's MOST OF MY LIFE!!!!!  Never have i had this much trouble with one computer.
Anyways it is fixed...for now  and there is a $50 service bill laying on the table.  He already knows we do not plan to pay it unless things work for at least awhile and there are no more glitchs.  I'm contacting the acual company through email and waiting on a reply.  Maby they will help sence it is not their reparemen that has been doing the work.  Who knows maby they will be the ones to help shut this guy down.  they are only about 50-60 miles away from here so if things work out it might be easyer to go up there personaly and get an exchange.

But for now at least im back up and running.  I'm finaly able to update my graphics card and other components.

Thanks,

I hope everything works out for you but don't let it leave your mind. Take some of Gaztop's advice and write to the company! And force the issue with them. Because you still might be able to get this taken care of and I for one wouldn't pay that $50 bill even if the thing stays running. You already payed for a computer that was suppose to work in the first place and unless you bought it without any kind of warrenty what so ever or you tried to do some tweaking that voids a warrenty then you shouldn't be required to pay anything to get it fixed.
The man that has been working on it doesn't seem to be one to do any business with at all so stay away if more problems start. Go to the top as Gaztop said.
Also you might want to consider a letter to the editor of your local newspaper to "report" this guy. But be careful to be sure to know all the facts and not say anything that isn't true it will only damage yourself but the word of mouth will shut the guy down faster than anything if he is a scammer!
