Lightning strike kills climber

A climber has died after being struck by lightning while climbing a mountain near Tyndrum in Stirlingshire.
The man, who has not been named, was climbing on Ben Oss, south east of Ben Lui, and was nearing the 3,500ft summit when he was hit.

His companion called for help by mobile phone and a Royal Navy helicopter crew was scrambled from Prestwick.

It is understood the victim died while the helicopter was en route. The incident happened at about 1900 BST.

A spokesman for HMS Gannet said: "The crew were scrambled to a report of a guy struck by lightening on Ben Oss, on the north end of Loch Lomond.

"But when they arrived at the scene the man was dead."

On the weather conditions, the spokesman added: "It was a sudden, violent electrical storm and they got caught in it with tragic consequences."

Parts of the country were swept by thunder storms over Monday afternoon and evening.

I just read about this Doug, a terrible tragedy, alas big boys games have to be played by big boys rules, and sometimes the price has to be paid :(
I feel v.sorry his family and friends (especially the climbers), as climbing is a v.tight community...

He hasn't been named?  What did they call him?

"Hey you, watch out for the axe!"

You'd think that if he was old enough to climb mountains, he'd be old enough to get a name.
Great edit, Bob.

I was going to rebuke Scott for making sick jokes about the deceased. I remembered just in time that I originally posted this in the Jokes forum by mistake. :o

Fortunately I realised my mistake & deleted it before anyone read it. ;D

They say it's the most difficult language in the world to learn as a second language.

Fortunately, having been born here, I have no basis to judge that on, but I would be inclined to think it's pretty accurate.

Most of it just doesn't make any sense.
