ok in a few catagories.
Greatest warplanes of all time.
1:Spitfire(arguably the best pure fighter aircraft ever)
2:Harrier(with VTOL capability and its uncanny ability to do tasks most aircrft couldnt this goes into the list)
3:F117(while it isnt in my top 3 i feel it deserves to be there for the fact it brought in a new age of warfare)

Greatest civil aircraft
1: 747(this aircraft is and forever will be an engineering marvel its sheer size and popularity will mean it shall fly for many more years
2: Concorde(no words really nessicary, but what other passenger aircraft could allow you to arrive in new york from london before you left?)
3: 707(many people ask why when i say this one in discussion, simple answer is, it made flying possible for everyone, it brought a new era of travel, that meant it wasnt just the elite and wealthy who could fly)

You've already seen my "favourite military" list,but since everyone's posting their "favourite civilian" list as well,I'll post mine,too...

#1: Boeing 707 - A real classic and the first really successful commercial Jetliner.

#2: Douglas DC-7C - The last big propliner. Along with the "Connie" ,it provided the first nonstop flights over the Atlantic Ocean.

#3: Airbus A380 - If this thing becomes as great as the developers promise,it'll surely start a new era of commercial aviation. More economically,cleaner,more comfortable...

Civil:
1) C172........who had never flown on it !?!  ;D
2) Concorde........Don't ask WHY !!!!!  >:(
3) Boeing 747.......it was a revolution more than 30 years ago,and it's still working majestically!!!  ;)

Military:
1) F-104.......the one and only aircraft flyng "without" wings......!  ???
2) F-14.............Too many reasons!  ;D
3) B1........anybody has really undertood his value!  :'(
