Whats up with those lights in control rooms?

You know board of lights which seem to go on and off? They dont seem to do crap.

they make the set look more complicated than it needs to be, either that or someone left the Christmas decorations up ::)

It's a movie set, I'm sure they don't do anything but blink.  On board a real carrier, however, I'm sure every light has a purpose.  lol

Also, notice in space movies (Star Trek) how bland the walls are.  Enter any tank, ship or plane and the walls are just filled with nifty little red things to push!  Especially on a Puff the Magic Dragon! ;D
