Bummer Pip. Next time use Ikea, even my mum can assemble their stuff (mind you as a nurse she is used to getting fiddly wiggly slimy bits back inside people and making them stay, so she might have a slight advantage!).
Personally I build my own furniture, I always slightly over engineer things to be sure, my book shelves according to the site I got the plans for them from can take 40 kgs of books safely. Mine have been holding over 200 kgs for a good two years now, and still look good 8)
Maybe its time for a little woodwork nightschool? ;D

lol...sounds like fun! I just bought a new computer chair this morning...the box said "SOME" assembly required...:-)

I looked at the box, and it was only about 2 foot square and only about 7-8 inches thick...:-) and said to myself..."Some assembly required my A$$"...anyways I got it home and it onyl took me about 45 minutes to get it together, albeit I spent most of the time looking for screws since they didn't give me enough!

:D ;)
