i have never really known:) however myself and richie have been lobbying for the positions:)
although a couple of people here do deserve the position more, but you dont want to over-do the amount you have

Only Pete gets to choose who is a moderator, you don't get automatically promoted after so many posts ;)

I have to ask myself why you would want to be one ? ??? It's certainly not a job I would relish. ::)

I think the Mods here do a great job & we definitely don't need any more. Too many cooks & all that. ;) :P

Being a "moderator" in a forum like this is being a benign "cop" ... You walk the beat, say hello to the citizens.  Most of the "work" is pushing a posting into the right forum, nudging an answer here and there.

More often than not, these forums police themselves.  Posts that get out of hand are either locked, moved, deleted.  Usually, a thread will police itself.

You guys do Most of the "work", calming down an "overanxious" poster, answering the questions, etc.

If something gets really bad, only Pete can take the ultimate sanction.

Most of the time, we use common sense and (reasonably) good judgement.

First, you need to be declared certifiably insane.

Insane? Moi? I don't think so, I'm just as sane as the next pickled gibbon ;D
Oh and the ultimate Pip was the inverted loop in Concorde around the Golden Gate! 777s are tooooooo small to be decent stunt planes 8)

MichaelB - going back to your original question ....

An absolute requirement is a total lack of sanity and mental acuity.

Pete doesn't want anyone smarter than him - mainly to realize that he's nuts to even be managing this site and motely group.

Anyhow, we all strive to be like Hagar - who doesn't need to be named moderator.

Wasn't Hagar a moderator on the late Ultraboard forum?

moderator is different. . . i wouldn't call it a burden. . .but it is more work (which at simV is enjoyable). . .deffinatly a lot more reading and less posting. . .

we try to keep the chaos to a minimum. . .even if we start it ::) ;)
Sincerely,
