I am hooking up high speed DSL, and I have a choice of using [a]USB port    or   [b]Ethernet connection

i have hardware for ither, and i am wondering what is easier on the computer so it goes fast, yet takes up little processor usasage or what ever it would do

If you've got ethernet, use it. This is a dedicated port for this kind of work. Besides that you may find that you need the USB port for some other device in the future.

Not to mention, the USB port may be USB 1.0 instead of 2.0...  Much faster.  Go with the Ethernet.  How is it you have a choice?  Mine requires both.  One for the connection and one for the modem.

Ethernet. Most modern motherboards have a Cat5 ethernet socket in the back. I'd also recomend a wireless router if your computer is on a different story of your house than the cable modem. I learned this the hard way.
