I've done my fair share of playing with fire. I even almost burned a couple houses down. They were small fires but thankfully I got them out :-[

I even once almost started an electrical fire by shorting out an electrical cable in my bedroom ::)

But since then i've stuck to playing with explosives outside ;D

Ok...... when it comes to playing with fire..... now you are getting into the stuff that I do in my real world job.  ;D  I get to play with fire all the time..... BIG fires ........ and no one yells at me for doing it.   ;)  Been doing this as a pro for about 34 years.

I am a professional ceramic artist....... a potter.  I fire my work in a large Japanese-type multi-chamber wood fired kiln called a "noborigama".  The firing cycle is about 28 hours of constant stoking to bring all of the five chambers up to the roughly 2400 F (white heat) maturing point of the clay and glazes I use.

I burn about 2+ cords of wood a firing.  I burn pine scrap from sawmills 'cause it releases it's heat faster and I don't cut trees just to fire the kiln.  At the peak of the firing, when I throw wood into the main firebox on the front end of the kiln........... I can put 5-10 feet of flame that looks like the afterburner on an F-15 out the top of the chimney that is a good 35 feet away  ;).

Then the kiln takes about two days to cool before I can unload the pots.

I understand the facination with fire quite well.  Along with the effects that wood firing gets on the wares that can't be gotten any other way...... I really enjoy the entire wood firing process....... from cutting and stacking the wood..... right up to the stoking.

My $0.02 worth.

best,

....................john

Oddly enough the largest explosion I ever made was from an exploding 2,400V 400uf capacitor! not from fire. The band was so loud that I could not hear well for a few days and books fell of of my shelf because of the shockwave.

I love playing with fire!

In a job I used to have I would work in a lab testing road marking materials, quite an industrial process...

Out in the yard we had this weird looking machine. One day, I asked what it was..."Thermic Lance, you want a go?"

THERMIC LANCE? That sounds interesting!!  ;D

Basically, it's a large Oxy/Acetylene torch that "burns" an Iron rod in pure Oxygen to produce extra heat...think of a Oxy/Acetylene torch with afterburner. Boy does that thing get hot...really hot! 4000 degrees C hot!!

We cut through all sorts of stuff with this, concrete melts when you use one of these things. We cut through a 9x9" rod of steel in about 20 seconds!!  :o :o :o

If you even get the chance to use one, do, it's one hell of a blast!

fire is so fun and i dont know why.  ive always been fascinated at it and been amazed at for how many hours one can sit in front of a camp fire and just stare at it.  it must be something descended from down cave men days when they first discovered fire, it provided warmth and light in a world that would have been cold and dark.  and that fascination has carried through to today where we just literally get a bang out of seeing things blow up!  i know i sure do!

Having been inside more than my fair share of burning buildings, not to mention vehicle fires with God knows what in the trunk, I promise you...fire isn't fun. and if you don't respect it, it will teach you why you should.;)
Great edit, Bob.

True. If you're safe it can be fun. Our family once had a close call where our house was in danger of being burned down. And no, it wasn't me ;)

I dont mind fireworks displays, but I prefer the soft glow of candlelight. My girlfriend and I tend to burn candles for light instead of turning on the incandescent ones in our home. Much more soothing

As for explosions, I can take them or leave them. Im not impressed either way. Guess since I dislike guns as well ;)

Since lots of us here seem to like fire & large explosions, maybe thats the reason lots of us are obsessed with combat flight sims........ ;) :o ::) 8)

You can't just keep flaunting that thing around and threatning other Simers. By order of the UN, I put an Atomic Marmalade weapons ban on you.
