Gun camera footage

Postby Wing Nut » Sat Sep 06, 2003 2:47 pm

I downloaded some guncamera footage from a C-130 Gunship attack on some Taliban positions in Afghanistan.  All I can say is I would HATE to have been a Taliban.  The amount of firepower this thing laid down on these people is incredible.  They completely leveled a building while leaving the mosque next to it unharmed.  They also destroyed pretty much every vehicle in the place, and eventually moved on to destroying a tunnel.  Wow! :o

I'd love the link if you have it, mate.

I've done quite some searching in the 'gun camera' area, particularly WWI, and only have a few short, unclear bits and pieces and one good film.

If anyone has links to genuine WWII gun camera footage, I'd love the links. Thanks.

I've got one that's about 1 minute long. It's a Lufwaffe training film (by the look of the title). It says it's taken from an FW190. It's giving a terrible pounding to a B17.
Two engines get hit and flame, the tail gunner obviously gets it early on becuase the mess of the tail is terrible. The rudder and stabilser end up all but goneand the tail turret seems to be gone altogether.
When the 190 finally (it must have been going slow) catches up, it passes under a wing, seemingly missing it by inches.

It's frightening the amount of damage the cannons especially could do.
I'm sure this B17 must have gone down, but then I've seen Pics of them arriving home pretty badly wasted.  :'(

I've seen a few clips on KaZaA, but most of it was pretty grim. One was an F-4 firing a sparrow at a Mig-17 over Vietnam, the other was a dogfight between some Greek and Turkish F-16s but no-one fires anything. I think I picked up some Greek expleatives from the second one 8)

I'm pretty sure my granddad has a film of him in his P-51 in WWII shooting down a german FW-something-or-other.  Its a reel-to-reel, and I'm not sure how to get that into a digital format, but if someone can tell me how, I'll try.

Thanks anyway, Pippin. Yes it would be a bit large.
That's probably why all the bits available on the Net are only 5 or 10 second bits.
The one of the B17 I have is about a minute long, and it took ages to download

Denishc, sorry mate, misprint..........lol ;D
Maybe there is some footage somewhere. I've seen footage taken from planes that were obviously alongside another. There's one with a bloke hanging over the side with a small bomb in his hand, ready to drop. Plenty air to ground shots. So maybe.................you never know.. ;)

For anyone interested, I've just found a link to a site where there are a couple of Mpgs of an Fw190 being shot down by a P47 (I think, 339th F.G.).

Most of the site is a series of jpg's from gun cameras but there are 2 mpg's, one is 3mb and the other 6 mb.
So, a broad band or cable connection would be much quicker than my 56k modem which downloads at about 5 - 6 kbps. But then, once you have it, you have it for good.

I found this in a Google search (I'm having some success today with my 'gun camera searches). It describes it as footage of "An AC-130 Gunship in action in Afganistan".

I wonder if this is the one you have, Pippin.

My ISP won't give me access to the site, but here it is, for those interested.

We used to have Janes US Navy Fighters and the AC-130 Gunship has a serious 105 mm Howitzer and it used to pack some serious punch.

I can imagine what it would have done to the taliban. . .

I saw this footage a few months ago, and you guys are right.  It's awesome (in the literal sense of the word).  I've gotta give those guys credit...despite constant spankings like this, they're still convinced (some of them) that they're going to win this thing.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

Thanks BR. Just had a look at it (don't know why my ISP blocks some addresses and not others?).

I don't think it's the one that Pippin's talking about, it's only 3.8 mb. But it's interesting. Tell me.......do those AC130's ever run out of ammo.............. ??? ;D ;)

I know Hype, they must really be fervent in their belief.
(Maybe as much as the British were during 1940........it's a question of perspective, I suppose).  ;D ;)
