Angolan 727 spotted

Postby ozzy72 » Mon Jul 07, 2003 4:00 am

An article in the Guardian Unlimited (their online version) reveals that the 727 that disappeared from Angola the end of May has been spotted in Guinea. It has been repainted and is sporting the tail no. 3XGOM now, but the old number N844AA is still visible under the new paintjob.
The plane was spotted and photographed by a Canadian pilot Bob Strother.
The plane has since disappeared again, but it looks like the owners just didn't want to pay the $30,000 in airport taxes! Great business ethics ::)

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Ozzy. I almost suggested this as the real reason behind this episode  before. Maybe not on such a large scale but this sorth of thing has been going on since parking fees were first thought up. It's certainly not unknown in the UK.
I remember one instance of a B-25 camera plane parked for several months at Shoreham being "spirited away" in the middle of the night. Depending on how long the aircraft has been there, the amount due can be more than the value of the plane itself.
