50 years on...

Tomorrow will be the 50th anniversary of the execution of the Rosenbergs (Julius and Ethel) for espionage and passing nuclear secrets to the Soviet Union.
All I can say was this was an almighty cock-up by both American security services for not vetting properly, and Winston Churchill for stopping Verona (the monitoring of Soviet traffic from their London embassy, which would later prove the Rosenbergs were spies! Many years after their execution, but it is reassuring to know you got the right people ) Ooops!
They were the first US civilians to be executed for espionage.
Amazing how their actions helped to precipitate the Cold War and the arms race, and yet resulted in the collapse of the v.thing they supported (communism)!
Life is a funny old thing ain't it?

'got the right people' ? Not sure what you mean by that. Sarcasm I presume. It's been accepted that the cases wouldn't have passed todays judiciary system.

A lesson still to be learned: Emotion has no place in the courtroom. Only logic. & logic must be logic.

Aye Striker, I'm afraid my humour is frequently dryer than the Sahara. It was a terrible burden for their children to be not only orphaned, but also to have to live with the shame of what their parents had done, and that it would tarnish them for the rest of their lives. It is always the innocent who suffer the most.....
