Bad Day!!!!!!!

Postby Smoke2much » Tue Jun 17, 2003 5:31 am

I had an interview today for a new job, Intensive Care Staff Nurse.  It has been a bad day.......

I had a haircut for it three days ago, it went wrong.  I look like a neo-nazi it's so short.

My only white shirt had to be bleached and even after washing it three times it still smells.

I overslept this morning and woke up half an hour before the interview, I had to cycle in with my suit stuffed into a back pack and get changed at work.  The humidity in east anglia today (thunderstorm imminant) meant that when I arrived for the interview five minutes late in a pinstripe wool suit I was perspiring heavily and giving off the faint odour of bleach.

I then lost it completely in the interview and came across as a TOTAL dick head.

They will let me know that I failed to get the job on Friday.

The moral of the sorry tale.  Don't EVER oversleep for an interview.

Will :(

THere are two ways of looking at it -

You got dealt today a case of lemons - Murphy's Law overrode all other considerations  ...  Sit back, make a tall, cool glass of lemonade ...

You never really know how employers are going to view you ... More important - are you capable in your skills and abilities to do the job?  You did come in presentable, which means you made an effort.

On the other hand, I hope that sometime in the future you can sit back (with that glass of lemonade - or equivalent refreshment) and have a chuckle at the day's events.

Just reading your description had me laughing as I imagined a harried bald headed youngster pedalling furiously with a bag flopping behind in the wind while beads of sweat plop off ... and to complete the cartoon moment, a bird gagging as you go by and the stench of bleach and sweat hits it....

Of course, I do have a somewhat offbeat sense of humor.....

In a funny way the day got worse and better.  I've just returned home from the shift from hell.  All of my patients were dying, argumentative, violent or all three at once.  It was not easy.......

On the good side ITU phoned up the Senior Sister (Big Boss Lady, one step down from God) to ask for a verbal reference.  This is good in that they must be vaguely interested but bad in that this was the first she'd heard about me wanting to leave.  Oops!!!

And your description felix is utterly correct, except I'm 9 months off my 30th birthday and really old enough and wise enough not to sleep in on interview day.  When I move back in with my wonderful wife things like this will cease to happen.  I hope.

Sorry for that mate, you didn't deserve that.  It may have been expressed in a lighthearted way but today has been a real bitch.  Once again my apologies.

So you came a cross as a dick head. Don't sweat it, your a shoe in to become a nurse. Most hospital nurses I've met are mean and surly dick heads.  ;D

That's another way of putting a good "spin" on it ...  Now it begs the question - what if Smoke2much is "overqualified" ????

My wife's uncle was a medic in Vietnam.  He died last year, and towards the end, he was slipping in and out of consciousness.... at some points he had to be restrained as one last time he would try to go out crawling from the bed to tend the wounded .... not pretty...

Hey up Will, have a pint and chill. Look at it this way if you were meant to get the job then you will! If not then there is something better around the corner.
As you know my mum was a nurse, so I sympathise with the more demented aspects of working with terminally ill geriatrics, mind you her description of Roald Dahl in a nightgown and wee Willy Winky cap still crack me up (oh and he was so unpleasant to her that she won't allow any of his books in the house!).
Hang in there mate. We've all goofed from time-to-time. I've been hauled up on a number of occassions for being a complete and utter wally! Look on the brightside, at least you had your fly done up during the interview, I can name someone who didn't and was wearing boxer shorts with Snow White and the 7 dwarfs getting it on! And that idiot still managed to get the job. Oh and I still have the boxers ;D
