if you have windows messenger(comes pre installed) then i have had the same problem and couldnt fix it even with reinstall, best thing to try is get MSN messenger, or if you have msn messenger get windows messenger, they seem to be the same program and one should work

I have WInXP and it has the windows messenger that's pre-installed. I recently downloaded MSN messenger 5.0 but when I installed it, it didn't replace the default messenger, so I had two messengers installed ::)

I uninstalled the msn messenger 5.0 but I can't uninstall the windows messenger that comes with XP

its the messanger that comes attached to winXP. That is why its a chore to disable or delete it.
