Never ever touch the stuff - I do not even own a TV - 2Wings (my sweetie) has rabbit ears. No cable - no satellite.

But I do have cable broadband for the puter

Depends on what satellite system you want. Digital small dish, ie; Dish Network, large moveable dish with Dual Linear and Digital sidecar, ie; C/Ku band, 4DTV, or large fixed dish from one subscriber. For the money for subscribtions, the C/Ku band-4DTV system is hard to beat. One major drawback is you have to buy the system(around 2g's). Small dish is cheaper(about $100), recievers can be bought or leased, many channels are being added every year.

It all depends on your area and what you can pay. Personally I'd go for cable, its a dedicated land line, and is cheaper to maintain and fix. Satellite TV has problems with reception, such as if you live in a valley, there are other transmitters near you, especially military communications, they sometimes disrupt your single. One other point is that if the sat goes no TV and you got a new serving dish made out of your sat dish  ;)

Neither. Where I live there isn't cable, and satellite is way to expensive at the moment. But it is what I'll get in the future, as then I can watch Discovery etc in English!

I've got DirecTV Sattelite TV.
I can't get cable where I am, plus we get a special deal through General Motors (who owns the sattelites, oddly enough), since my grandfather was an honored employee.

We'll soon get DirecWay Sattelite internet too, to replace this horrible dialup.  :)

Still Dunno

Well, the problem is, my dad is weary to get cable because of the contract, and satellite because clouds might disrupt reception.

PS: I live in Houston, and even though it's the 4th largest city in the US, it's pretty flat.

Where I come from, Cable is pretty cheap but the reception is just terrible. I have both cable and satellite and I find the satellite is better. It's cheaper and has great picture. I have Bell ExpressVu and it's very good. Not many american stations though. (would love an american dish but they're illegal up here)

Weather should not be a problem. Unless you live in an area that gets a lot of thunder/snow storms, the satellite should rarely goes out.
One thing to note is that you do need a separate dish for each TV. Some dishes now have two receivers per dish, that means you can hook up two TVs to one dish.

I have sattelite and love it. The cable company where I live always had modulation, signal strength and audio problems!
Now all my channels are crystal clear with digital audio. Now my Digital surround sound proccesor has no problem giving me great audio!!
I will not go back to the company we call Cablevision here on Long Island. They are a huge monopoly and it is good to see competition!!

I thought this was funny:

I got Comcast Cable and its better than the satellite hookups we get here, and I have about 4 TV's so we'd need 4 dishes.  :-/

Ok, here's the nuts and bolts of this: Cable TV: Pro: Not generally affected by weather.
Con: Limited programming; programming is up to the carrier; cable goes out and no TV.
Dual Band Satellite(C/Ku band, 4DTV); Pro: Around 22 C-Band satellites can be programmed into system; Many different programming services: 24 channels per programmed satellite; Poor reception doesn't affect picture and sound too much; 100's of free, open air("wild") feeds; System is seperate so open air antenna can be used(don't have to pay for local programming); With 4DTV add-on possibility of 800 digital channels per programmed satellite.
Con: Have to buy dish and reciever; Can watch only one channel at a time; Snow on dish affects reception; routine maintenance required; Dish motors go bad, need replaced occasionally.
Small dish(digital),Dish Network et.al.: Pro: Many carriers to choose from; Dish is fixed, no maintenance; Can watch multiple channels on more than one TV         (requires multiple recievers); Start-up cost is usually below $100.
Con: Recievers are usually leased, not owned( could also be a good thing if reciever fails ); If reception is bad picture is a bunch of random squares and sound is garbled

Clouds have no effect on reception. If this were possible it would rather difficult to watch open air TV.
No matter how many channels you recieve, there still ain't nuttin on worth watchin' !!!

I hope I cleared this up for y'all......Taters
