Watch everything your doctor does in times that you consult him/her for minor stuff, and that way, build trust. So if your doctor doesn't do well to, let's say, a minor flu episode, then ask yourself how he/she would handle something much more serious. A second opinion is always an option.

That's what I did in 1990 after 4 days of 102 fever, followed by 99 temps at night and a lot of coughed and chest congestion. My doc said, just ride it out. I saw a lung specialist who sat me down for 20 minutes asking questions, then examined me thoroughly, then sent me next door for xrays, then prescribed some basic meds and said, "The Xrays do not show anything serious, but these meds will help and fix you up.

My regular doc there was very competent, of that I had no doubt. No schlock doc there. So why not call it like the lung doc did? I don't know. And why did that same doc tell me I need cholesterol meds, when my current doc finds me just in peachy health all around, no meds needed for anything.

But as I said, my regular doc there was very competent, connected to the right hospital, etc.

When I started Medicare, I had to get another doc according to my Plan, which is exactly what I wanted, a new doc. My current doc is very good, no miscalls. I would have dumped the competent former doc sooner, but had no health issues, therefore no reason to.

So you need to be your own physician at all times. If your doc does not or cannot talk to your face the way you would, get another doc.

...even a third, as well as the rest of the advice. Although well-intended, doctors are human and can be mislead, themselves, by various factors (unnecessary surgery is an extreme -- unnecessary/improper dose medications are more common since these are often according to the individual and the doctor needs to monitor to correct for it).

My mom lost her mobility from strokes: I confronted her doctor, "It seems that her strokes were caused by your medication."
He replied, "That's why I could never give her enough to cure her."
Nevertheless, a new doctor and different medication was too late. That subsequent stroke had voided her start at walking again and also contributed to her battle with dementia. She had no one else and I'd surrendered my job and savings in my return to NH. Then I had to give her a choice as to which nursing home. She was 95 in March but she's quite succumbed to dementia.

I've avoided mention of this, although I haven't hidden my associated diabetic and neuropathy conditions since the 1990s (one of my younger cousins, affected by type 2 diabetes in his teens, has been lost to diabetic complications) but there's further reason this post rather knocks on my door. I have a "what you don't know won't hurt you" attitude (it's not my belief, just the attitude which has been somewhat influenced by a death experience from which I was returned after @ ½-hour conversation) so I went a long while without having it diagnosed; I suspected pancreatic cancer some years ago but the diagnosis at the beginning of this year was that I've had all the symptoms of colon cancer (I knew my paternal grandfather died with cancer: my oldest cousin has confirmed that it was colon cancer). I admit I've taken medications irregularly, sometimes not at all, but, along with much prayer, not all my own, some feeling has returned to my hands and, to a lesser degree, my legs and feet; at least I can still walk (and, by last check, run -- just not so safely). However, I also have an assurance that I will be living for yet quite some while (not by the doctors but I've made them aware of it) and I'm currently more concerned for my eyesight.

Another overall point here is that not everything is the fault of the doctors -- they can't diagnose what you hide from them, they need your input.
That said, I pray for your health (and healing, if needed).

My warning to all you Blokes out there .... :o ....

If you find that it is gradually taking you longer and longer to have a Pee every time you go to the Toilet....

...it takes AGES to get started and it takes FOREVER to stop...

....then it's time for a quick visit to the doctor to explain to him (her) what your problem is!

A quick, painless check will detect if you are having problems with your Prostate Gland...>>>

A visit to my Doctor a number of years ago revealed that I had an Enlarged Prostate Gland resulting in problems with Peeing...(Old Blokes Problem) .... ...!

A quick check found that there were no other problems (Prostrate Cancer) and a daily medication (Doxazosin tablet) keeps the system in good working order....no more problems! ... ...!

There you go, Chums...Prostrate Cancer is our biggest killer, so, any problems in that area, get to the Doctor.....QUICK!..... ...!

In this case, Foz is wrong but quite right...

Go and see your Doctor? Oh yeah, you’ll be prostrate all right – when he sticks his finger up you’re a**e!

Been there, done that, still slightly anally retentive!
