Google's dummig down it's searches.

No, that's not something just to catch your eye.

Google searching from your desktop is officially old skool

Jerry Dischler -- VP of Product Management, Google -- just revealed that "as of today" more searches are originating from smartphones than PCs....

....but it does shed light on why search's number one player recently shuffled up its hallowed algorithms to favor mobile friendly sites.

The video in the article is almost 45 minutes long. Jerry Dischler -- VP of Product Management, Google talks about how things are changing to help people find the things that they need (to buy).

And, of course, people are checking Google for places to go, and things to do (read advertising revenues).

It's all very trendy.

It all reminds me of the beginning of broadcast television - It was going to bring culture and education to the common people. It would open up a whole new world.

So we end up with Jerry Springer.

BTW - This is standard broadcast TV. Fatherless kids will watch it alongside with their mothers.

I can honestly say that I ever watched the Gong Show.

That one series, all by it's self, may have been responsible for my abandonment of TV.

I just now watched another two minute segment, and I can certainly say that in stupidity, if not in crudity, it exceeds the Jerry Springer show.

I suppose that Google's refocusing their search engine on trendy, revenue increasing, search results is par for the course.

We've already talked about the "New" Google map results, which try to help us find ways to spend our money.

Speaking of pain in the butt!

The time that SimViation gives you to correct you post seems to be getting lower & lower.

The first line in the above post should be - I can honestly say that I never watched the Gong Show.

(I guess that I'm just a cranky SOB tonight.)

OK, so it wasn't ALL trash.

Still, back then, I was more interested in real, live, girls than TV.

But if I go down memory lane with that I'll end up being censored. :D

1960s - Sexual revolution and 'The Pill'

In 1965 millions of unmarried women in 26 states were still denied birth control.

And suddenly women were free. :P

Interesting times.

Young kids today have absolutely NO idea what their grand maws & grand paws were like in the late '60s & '70s. :o

Interesting and not surprising article -- but I can't see a form of desktop going anywhere near the recycle bin soon.

There is no way I could work ona phone ... or even for any time on a laptop. Just too backache making. Sure fine for the occasional email or 'approve file' at simviation -- but other stuff and editing/fixing files here?-- noooop ...

My work setup involves a nice comfy high back chair, monitor about 2x armlength from my eyes, and keyboard in an arm friendly position. And -- a trusty Dell desktop PC that I bought in 2009 and still is up to or even ahead of most of the laptops I have just taken a look at on the Dell website - in terms of processor (i5)/HD (2TB), and RAM (16GB).

I do have 2 laptops, a small tablet that I won in a raffle and of course the smartphone (NOT iphone- android). None could possibly replace my desktop for everyday work and ease of use. (not to mention FS <<r )

What I do empathise with is the versatile tablet. Used as a desktop, on a stand with keyboard/mouse attached then detached and used as tablet, etc. But it's still a desktop when being used that way.

I do wish Google would be a little thoughtful before they dismiss a machine that's likely to remain the mainstay of worklife for millions in the 1st world for some time ...

"Old school" for me.... :D ...!

My trusty ol', ADVENT Tower computer may be a bit big, and permanently attached to the wall with a multitude of cables, not to mention a monitor, wired keyboard, wired mouse, wired speakers, wired router/modem, etc....

But compared to my Google Nexus 7 Android Tablet, it is a zillion times faster at doing everything....

....and not a single, annoying i-phone, etc, in sight, to fiddle with!

Tried a "Laptop" for 5 minutes, a while ago....went straight back to my Desktop Tower again!

My Desktop/Tower Computer is a very versatile box of tricks....

...and keeps me indoors...out of the rain...!

...and no "flat batteries".... :D ...!

Paul.... ...!

P.S....and I still use computer "e-mail", every day....(and a Land-line Telephone!).... ...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Each has it's own place for me.

Desktop for work
Laptop for outdoors and bedroom
Tablet for the crapper
Phone for out of home
