I guess the early "Americans" had the appearance, (facial features), of the Mongols from north eastern Asia, (and probably still do!).

If anything in the southwest US starts with "San" the chances are pretty good that you should pronounce it as if you were speaking Spanish.

Munich = MYU-nick, not MUN-ich

Marseille = Mar-SAY, not Mar-SELL-ee

Worcestershire = I have no idea

Gloucester....Gloster.

Gloucestershire...Gloster-shire.

Lots of England place names in the USA and Canada. I wonder if they are all pronounced the same in the three locations?

Worcester, Mass = WOO-STAH, but if you have ever heard a John Kennedy speech you know that "English" is not really the language spoken in Massachusetts. In fairness the same goes for Jimmy Carter and whatever language they speak in Atlanta.

All Americans should learn to speak like Walter Cronkite and all British Isles residents should learn to speak like BBC news presenters.

Something else to think about. A Cuban can't understand a Castilian.

Depends upon the person, often the generation, saying them... just like our words. Most now have ants and uncles -- I sometimes had ants below my ankles but my aunts (ahnts) were with my uncles. As for the pronunciation of Worcester, it also depends upon the listener. My pronunciation is actually Woostur and, to me, car is pronounced "karr"; however, Midwesterners sometimes commented about my pronunciation as "kah", whereas, my Connecticut cousin chuckled about my pronouncing it "karrr" versus, to my ears, his "kah" (I thought he'd gotten a kink in his tongue).
