Reptiles loose in Florida

For once there are sensible comments with this article. We have cats around here, every now and then one wanders into my yard, but they won't let you near them. Dodging a large lizard might be a different story, tho. Only tiny lizards around here, and on very rare occasions I've seen a black snake. Not near a canal, so no alligators. No fear of snakes, but monitor lizards, I dunno. My neighbors on either side have jungle-like yards, lots of places to hide. I'll keep my eyes open, ya never know. Problem is, if one of these gets a kitty, there ain't gonna be evidence of the kitty been gotten.

Maybe I DON'T want to move to Florida! :o

This has nothing to do with you, Apex, but it reminds me of why I don't normally go to Yahoo, never mind use it for anything.

Mixed in among their news stories are fake "stories" with a link to beap.gemini.yahoo

This is a Google search for beap.gemini.yahoo and does not actually link to beap.gemini.yahoo.

Yahoo isn't the only entity to use such redirection to pull in money, but it is one of the worst. Many view beap.gemini.yahoo as a virus due to it's invasiveness.

A cat-eating lizard sounds good to me!.... ...!

Replies:
"David: I read a previous article that said it was costing Florida thousands of dollars for every python they were getting through their eradication program. Now it's the lizards.....

The simple answer is: No Closed Season - No Bag Limits, and a $100 bounty on the head of every one of these dangerous species brought in. Jethro and Bubba will be out every night hunting for beer money. Problem solved and it will cost the citizens of Florida less in the long run".

OldAirmail: Hi, this is real, we've had python problems in the Everglades, people buy them (why, why why?), and when they grow to size, they dispose of them by letting them loose in the Everglades. Completely irresponsible, and just plain dumb. Does it ever occur to any reptile buyer that hey, they do get larger as the get older? Are your kids the same size now as ten years ago? And hey, lookie at the tree in my back yard, gosh, it sure has gotten big!

The Everglades is a sensitive ecosystem that needs careful controlling, and the wildlife there needs protecting. Your average python is just not good for the system and they have throw the system off balance in recent years.

My philosophy when it comes to stuff is "Believe none of what you read, and half of what you see", so I read the news with both eyes open. But in this case, it's happening. The python thing was in the local news some time ago, and now it's monitor lizards. If they propagate, we'll find out about it soon enough.

Hi, Apex. I'm not questioning the validity of that news article.

The problem with invasive species has been going on for far longer as I've lived.

Want to talk about little bunnies, and other animals in Australia?

It goes on and on.

You must not have clicked on this link --> beap.gemini.yahoo

THAT is the problem that I was referring to.

Want potentially unwanted programs (PuP's) on your computer? Click on these "adds" on Yahoo:

True, if you know what to look for you can avoid them. But most people don't.

While trying to clip these samples from their website I accidently clicked on one of them.

This is what I ended up with:

Apex, I'm sorry to take up so much of your post, but I may need to apologize about the Yahoo site.

I wanted to check that the last post was true.

After cleaning my computer, I did the following:

First I updated the three anti-virus engines that I use.

Then I intentionally clicked on three of the beap.gemini.yahoo ads.

I'm now using two of the anti-virus programs at the same time, and will run the third one when they're both done.

Normally I only have one running.

The final results show that clicking on those ads DID NOT result in a PuP being placed on my computer.

What beap.gemini.yahoo did do was to take my click and redirect me to other, and legitimate, web sites.

Again, sorry for taking over your post.

And Apex does bring to attention a growing problem, for both Florida and a great many other places.

Paul may have one of the answers - post a no limit bounty on the critters.

On the other hand, as he isn't all that fond of cats, I don't think that he would join in on the hunt.

Hey OldAirmail, no prob here. I did check that link, but I've never had any problems with my computer, just none whatsoever, so I'll pass on any kind of a fix, since it doesn't seem to need fixing. Norton is doing a good job, so I'm good. But I do appreciate your advice on these things, thank you.

Uhh, I do like cats, wouldn't want one, but I leave the occasional prowler alone, they leave quickly anyway and are never a nuisance. One exception to the 'cats won't let you near them' thing, about 10 years ago, some neighbor's cat would constantly hang around here and next door, and whenever it saw me in the yard, would come up and hang around me, night or day, following me around, even after it should have figured out that I wasn't going to feed it. Very friendly critter, most unusual behavior. I first saw it sitting on my car one night, and decided not to chase it away, next day it's sitting outside here on a tree stump, so I approached it carefully, and it came right up to me. It has since, several years ago, disappeared, I have no idea what happened to it. I must say, chosing between neighbors and this cat, give me the cat any day. At least it listened when I talked to it. But trying to get it to help out with the yardwork, no way.

It kinda amazes my that Paul doesn't like cats.

From what I understand, the cats near his house try to do some of the yard work for him, such as fertilizing his yard.

And yet he shows no appreciation of their efforts ???

Cats are a huge problem down here in Australia. They kill
so much wildlife. So do foxes.I am constantly finding dead
parrots and other birds in my backyard. There are also thousands of feral
cats as well.

Introduced species.Bad news.

The origin of the word: "Catastrophe".

eg: The damage created by neighbour's Cats resulting in the carcases of garden birds littering my garden, and the tonnage of liquid Cat Crap spread all over my grass, depositing itself on the soles of my shoes and being transferred onto the carpets in my house, and spreading itself all over the underside of my Briggs and Stratton lawn mower.... ....!

Many, many years ago I used to own a Cat.... ....

Then I saw the light.... :naughty: ....

.....now, I just heave bricks at them, as they slyly creep over my garden fence to invade my property!.... ;) ...!

I can remember, that many years ago Cats were treated as vermin, like rats and mice, and could legally be disposed of!
Nowadays, Cats are regarded as "Property", and jail awaits you if you "accidentally" shoot one of them!

Paul....brick in hand..... ;) ..... ......!

Aren't you misspelling? Didn't a cat set off one of your explosive booby traps, blowing away his front portion, and you now have one of these mounted on your wall?

I have their heads mounted on my front gate with a warning.

NO CATS allowed here.
