Thursday's Dins....

Postby Fozzer » Thu Feb 19, 2015 11:19 am

Peeking into my 'fridge and larder this morning....

..not a lot in there for a nice big Dins at mid-day....no pies or meat!......!

Pouring with rain outside, so I couldn't go shopping, and get my motor-bike (or me) all nasty and wet...

So I quickly knocked this Dins up instead...>>>

Fried Egg.
Bacon.
Onions.
Mushrooms.
Carrots.
Leeks.
Parsnip.
Mashed potatoes, with milk and butter.
My usual fantastic onion gravy with herbs and spices.

It did the job...as usual!.... ...!

Hi Fozz...
Ever thought about "Bubble and Squeak?" You have most of the makings right there.
This is gonna confuse the crap out of some the members here.

The Old English Favourite, Zaph!

I often make it for a Supper treat, with a fried egg and bread and butter!

Mashed potatoes and mashed Brussels Sprouts/Cabbage formed into round cakes and fried in the frying pan with a little Olive oil, well-browned on both sides.

Our local super markets used to sell bags of them in the freezer...but they have stopped doing it some time ago...for some unknown reason!.... :( ...!

Bubble and Squeak...wonderful stuff!....>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubble_and_squeak

...and what about Black Pudding?..... ;) ...!

Luckily for me Matt, in the two jobs that I have worked at (as an Electrical + Electronic Engineer) for the whole of my working life, 8-hour day, 5 days a week, my places of employment have only been a mile or so from my home, so I was always able to pop home for an hours proper dinner!

The reason why I always have had, and still have, my Dinner at Mid-day...DINNER-TIME!..... ...!

Breakfast, Dinner, Tea, and Supper.... :D ...!

Having regular meals, at the proper times, is a recipe for a healthy life...and very good for your tummy!... ...!

"Shift work" is very bad for you!.... ...!

Well done Mark!.... ...!

..Stew/Casserole always tastes nicer the next day!

A perfect hearty meal for these cold, damp days!

My massive casserole crock-pot (in the gas oven) lasts me for a couple of day's Dinners, Teas, and Suppers!

So much goodness....it just about beats anything else!!

I assume you have already covered "Sausage Toad" in a previous post? One of my favourites. Also my Mum used to make a "Chop Toad" with lamb chops. Delicious with plenty of Mint sauce.
The education continues!

"Toad in the hole", Zaph!.... ....!

http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2972 ... onion-grav

A popular favourite with my dear old Mum, in the olden days!

Made in the meat tin after the Roasted Beef has been taken out, using the Beef fat!

Crusty bits round the edges!

Wonderful treat, now available, ready made, in the Shop freezers!
