Then & now

Back on Sept 22,2013 I was pointing out how Mesh can make something uninteresting look much better.

With the flight sim time that I've spent in the Canary Islands, I thought that I'd look up that post.

And here's part of it.

A while back, someone on SimViation was asking about Fuerteventura (one of the Spain Canary Islands) scenery. So I went off to Fuerteventura in FSX.

Fuerteventura is kind of an interesting place, but you would NEVER know it from FSX;

This is Fuerteventura with Orbix FTX Global and FSGenesis - World Terrain Mesh. The FSGenesis - World Terrain Mesh contributes the most to the overall improvements.

Well, that was then.

The Canary Island, Fuerteventura, was treated pretty bad by Microsoft.

On the other hand they had to crowd the entire world into the average computer of the time.

This is the Fuerteventura of today. And the scenery would be the same in FSX or P3d.

Take your pick, the best of the old?

Or the best of today.

Thanks, Doug.

There are lot of places that I might want to visit, but wouldn't want to live there.

And Fuerteventura is one of those.

But the first time that I saw the FSX version (the very first picture) of the island, I had to wonder why anyone other than a shipwrecked sailor, would give two hoots about it.

I actually felt sorry for anyone born there.

Now I'm looking at it in a different light.

I still don't want to move there, but it does look like something worth exploring.

During my years of daily touring North America, I often come across places that I think to myself that I would not like to live there, and feel sorry for the folks who are trapped there for the whole of their lives, like folks from the Mid-West for example, who may never see the sea-side; Atlantic, or Pacific Ocean in their life-time!

One of the reasons I love California! Both sea, and mountain, and desert scenery within a short distance!

My nearest sea-side is about 50 miles from me!
