The end of a familiar sight...

Postby Fozzer » Wed Feb 04, 2015 6:51 pm

.....that we have always been used to seeing, in all the different versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator....

Candlestick Park Stadium, south of San Francisco City, and north of San Francisco Airport (KSFO), bordering San Francisco Bay!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candlestick_Park

Now being demolished!...>>> http://kron4.com/2015/02/04/video-catch ... emolished/

Similar to Hamilton AFB Airfield ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamilton_Army_Airfield .... and Alameda NAS Airfield ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Air_Station_Alameda .... in the same area. Still appearing in the Flight Sims, but alas, no more, being mere industrial estates now!

At least the Flight Sim's scenery will remain as a reminder of times past!

Paul,

Just like Meigs Field; gone in the real world, but not forgotten in FlightSim!

Paul,

What will you do when a good portion of California finally sinks into the Pacific when the BIG ONE (Earthquake) finally happens?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megathrus ... he_Big_One

Can you handle that in terms of FlightSim?

aussie,

This reminds me of a very true situation that I encountered back in the very early 70's..............
I was attending a technical school in upper state NY.......was about to head back home to the SF bayarea, when multiple people that I had met and some became friends told me that they'd even pay for my room at the hotel, but don't fly till AFTER the "BIG ONE !!.............at the time, maybe it was Notradamus, someone, don't remember who, and was not even interested predicted that CA was going to sink into the pacific ocean..........these people were very very serious..........pleaded with me.
I replied, if I take off soon I'll at least have an airport to land on !! Let me book a earlier flight!! Boy, that got them going.................in closing, I've always wanted beachfront property.......
Worth the big bucks no doubt! Glad they didn't try to restrain me, that might of turned out ugly...............

Thanks for your concern, and I'll take my chances eh

But then again, if "The Big One" hits, the nearest land to San Fran might be England. :P

Hello Chris... :D ...!

..Blimey!....that is a thought just too terrible to contemplate....
.....having survived the Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1906_San_F ... earthquake and subsequently enjoyed flying the highways and byways of the State of California, and the surrounding areas, daily, since Flight Unlimited II, and Microsoft's Flight Simulator '98, the thought of The State of California no longer existing would fill me with dread, put an end to my daily Flight Simming, and compel me to take up Knitting, or Flower Arranging, as a hobby, instead!.... ....
...or, maybe, even Bass Fishing!... :o ...!

I just hope that day never comes, and I never feel the ground shaking beneath beneath me!.... ...!
(Except during periods of Rumpetty-Bumpetty).... ;) ...(I wish!).... .... ...!

I must apologise to my American Chums for abandoning most of the remaining USA in favour of the State of California during my daily explorations.... ...!

Paul.... ...!

P.S...I'm sorry, Chris, that I haven't been down to Houston, in the State of Takes-us, lately, to visit Ya-all.... ...
...but the thought of encountering all those young Red-neck Dudes with their Pick-up Trucks frightens me!...not to mention the HPD Cops!.... ...!
.... .... ...!

Ta, for the link, Jet!
Fascinating, and slightly sad!

I was quite surprised to learn just how uncomfortable Candlestick Park was, both for the Players and their Fans, due to weather conditions, strong, cold winds off the Bay and the Pacific Ocean!

I spend a lot of time exploring the Flight Sim scenery for places existing, and places abandoned or destroyed long ago!

Lots of places here to explore, using Google Satellite Maps!...>>>
http://www.airfields-freeman.com/

Its amazing the amount of "stuff" no longer existing!

Paul.... ...!

P.S...When a large demolition like this occurs (Candlestick Park, etc), I often wonder where all the debris is deposited?
