I dumped Cable TV years ago, I was paying too much for too little. By too little I mean original entertainment. I watch the news on my PC and pay $8 /month for netflix and watxh all the John Wayne movies I want to. If I miss a month, so what it's only 8 bucks wasted. If I didn't watch any for a year it's less than what I used to pay every month to those scam artists.

It looks like everyone here is in agreement Reality TV isn't reality or even close to it. I used to be a big fan of The History Channel but even it has been poluted with "reality" shows. Now I watch the news and that's about it.
Now my 14 year old daughter has found something better to watch. She is hooked on Doctor Who and Sherlock. She holds up in her bedroom and watches them on her computer for hours on end. I sneak in every so often to watch too but she gives me "The Look" just like the Mrs. Must be something in the female genes. I really don't mind her watching those British shows at all but I think she might be watching a little too much. Today we were having a discussion and all of a sudden, right in the middle of it, I realized she had started speaking with a British accent. I mentioned it to her and she looked surprised but then realized I was right. All she could say was "Oh crap!" (for which she got MY LOOK!) I swear it's a true story.

Not to fear mate! She could be hooked on a lot worse and besides I've always had a soft spot for Great Britain anyway. But this is starting to get serious. The Mrs. found her list of colleges/universities she wants to apply to when she's old enough. King's College, London is her first choice. Oh crap!!!!

staiduk - do yourself a favor; look for the old TV shows you remembered from your youth, and watch those. Even the mediocre ones are better than some of the swill that's on at this very minute.

(chuckle) If I ever feel the need to watch TV - and that is VERY rare; I will watch Curling; or thrill to our young Canadian boys kicking as...er...buttock...in World Junior Hockey. If I ever feel the need to watch shows from my youth; I'll pop in a M*A*S*H*, WKRP or Muppet Show DVD. Far more entertainment and pleasure than anything made today can provide.

(giggle) Don't know if this is the right place to mention this; but I did originally post the OP because I was distressed at the apparent lack of tactical skill of supposed 'soldiers' shown in a 'reality TV' episode.

Next Saturday; our plant has been invited to a paintball match with our rivals; Central Web Edmonton. A close friend and co-worker - whose son just happens to be a Shift Supervisor at Central - has told me they have two Canadian Army veterans suiting up for the game. Well; I'm just one Canadian Army veteran; but I DID command a Section of Infantry in Bosnia. And had, I must admit, great success. Our kill total was the second highest in the entire bloody war. With no real concequences - it's just a game - I can relax and have fun leading my weekend warrior troops. Who knows? Might be fun.
