My wifes 1,601 viruses.

Yeah. She topped her last batch by 900 more bits of malware and viruses.

There isn't much that can protect a computer if the user keeps on saying - "YES, Please add that software to my computer. ".

She has 2 computers. On one, I don't let her install software. She can do her emails, banking, internet purchases, etc. on that one.

But she can install games on her laptop. The one with 1,601 viruses.

Well, guess what.

Microsoft has a new(er) vulnerability - Microsoft Warns of Attacks on IE Zero-Day.

In the article it mentions a new edition of EMET (Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit).

If I hear her complaining that she can't download some program that she needs, I'll know that it works.

For anyone who thinks that Linux is safer, think again. Windows may have far more attacks, but Linux crud is out there too.

I use Oracle VM VirtualBox to run different types of Linux in a sandbox within Windows 7.

Last weekend something was trying to send me to unknown sites. Oh it DID get through the Linux I was using at the time, but it didn't get back out to the internet.

I'm not a "master mind". I just make it a little harder to get through me.

And lets face it, a single computer with a simple connection through a common internet supplier isn't going to attract highly skilled people.

Totally protected? Nope.

ANYWAY
A virtual computer can be safer than dual booting different operating systems in Windows.

But it isn't as safe as having a removable drive to visit the net, something that I have used in the past to swap out operating systems.

In fact, some of you might have wondered what this was for.

Back when I used to have just one large drive, this drive caddy is where it went. If I wanted to use a different OS, I'd swap out the hard drive in it.

An internal hard drive caddy. Simple & cheap.

BTW - The actual computer is behind, and to the side, of my desk.

Now this caddy is for a removable backup drive.
