TEXTURES

Postby gulfstreamV » Mon Mar 24, 2014 9:25 am

I'm a newbie and I need to know how to add different textures to an aircraft. When I look at textures for, say, the Boeing 747-300, I see different folders for texture, texture.1, texture.2, and so on. Only the default livery textures show up when I open FSX and select the aircraft. How do I get the option to fly the different airlines associated with texture.1, texture.2, etc?

Thanks for any help!

Make sure the "Show all variations" option is checked.

Oh my. How simple was that. So, if I download various Textures only, do I have to do anything to install them into the specific aircraft folder?

Adding textures involves a simple edit to Aircraft.cfg. Most repaints will include the new [fltsim.x] entry. Please try one & post here if you have problems.

I downloaded "B738LAN". It gave me a texture folder "texture.LAN"

I open this folder and I don't see anything that gives me something to modify the aircraft.cgf

You've done the first part correctly. The new [fltsim.x] entry is in the file named leerme.txt. This is in the zipfile alongside the texture.LAN folder.

[fltsim.X]
title=Boeing 737-800 LAN
sim=Boeing737-800
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=LAN
kb_checklists=Boeing737-800_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-800_ref
atc_id=LV-BVV
atc_airline=LAN
atc_flight_number=""
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type=737-800
ui_variation= LAN
ui_typerole=Avión comercial
ui_createdby=Maxi Salas
description= LAN Argentina.

Open Aircraft.cfg in Notepad & paste the complete entry below the last existing [fltsim.x] entry. Change the X in the [fltsim.X] line to the next number in sequence. As this is your first new variation on this aircraft it will be [fltsim.6]

Exit Notepad saving changes on exit.

Note: It's a good idea to take a back-up copy of all files before editing/modifying them. If you have problems saving changes to Aircraft.cfg paste it to your Desktop before editing it. Then paste it back into your B737_800 folder.

OK, I'm getting the hang, but now it won't let me save the new aircraft.cfg. Says "access denied"

Read my note. If you have problems saving changes to Aircraft.cfg paste it to your Desktop before editing it. Then paste it back into your B737_800 folder.

Done! I'll have to keep practicing to get used to it. I appreciate your help immensely. I need to learn how to do these things otherwise I'll be too limited. Thanks again. You're great.

Excellent. You're a good pupil. Once you get the idea you shouldn't have any problems.

The "access denied" message is one of the security features of Win7. Windows assumes that all files in the default Program Files directory are protected system files & won't allow them to be messed around with. This is the reason many of us old sweats do a custom install of FSX to a location outside the Program Files directory.
Please note that I'm not suggesting you change yours as the solution is simple enough.
